Remembrance Day

By C Marshall9th November 2016

On Friday we will be holding a short remembrance service in school for the children at eleven o’clock for Armistice day. This year I would like to help the children think about people who are close to them who have given their lives to keep our country safe. Each class is making their own poppy wreath to share in the short service, but I am hoping you will be able to help us to make the service even more special.
Could I ask if you would like the name of one of your family member or friends mentioned who either lost their lives during either World War or one of the other major conflicts our country has fought in, could you please either put their name on a piece of paper and hand it into to the office or give us a call before Thursday night.
Thank you for your help
Mrs Marshall, Head Teacher

Pumpkin Exploration in Year 2

By S Hume4th November 2016

We have had a very interesting week in Year 2 exploring pumpkins.

We began the week reading Winnie’s Amazing Pumpkin.

Then we found out about how a pumpkin grows. There are so many different shapes and sizes so we decided to investigate: does the biggest pumpkin have the most seeds? The children counted hundreds of seeds from four different pumpkins and showed excellent teamwork. The result was … the largest pumpkin did have the most seeds!

To make use of all the pumpkin, we made Winnie’s Pumpkin Soup. All the children showed super chopping skills and the soup was delicious. Lots of children are now going to make it at home!

Year Four try out recipes for the ultimate Roman Sausage!

By M O'Brien1st November 2016

Herbs, spices and vegetables used by Romans

Which one will we try first?

The Romans brought a range of herbs and vegetables to Britain way back but sausage? Yes, it was a favourite among Roman Soldiers who it is thought always carried their sausages with them and enjoyed them as a snack or as part of their meal -usually served with Garum a type of fish sauce.

Year four today tasted a range of herbs, vegetables and spices popular in Roman cooking in their attempts to make the best, most tastiest Roman Sausage.

Some of our favourites included:
Pork,basil, onion and cumin,
Pork, garlic and leek,
Pork, cumin and basil.

Year One go back in time…

By C Edwards21st October 2016

In Year One we have been learning all about ourselves and our own lives. Last week, we were very lucky as we had two special visitors come and talk to us. Tom and Nora, Lucy’s Great Grandparents, came to talk to us about how life has changed and how school was different in the past. The children were very shocked to find out that Tom and Nora did not play with iPad’s or computers! We asked lots of questions and our visitors told us lots of very interesting facts. We can’t wait to find out more!

Year Four Poetry

By L Watson13th October 2016

Year Four have been busy exploring different forms of poetry. One of our favourites was the haiku, which is a Japanese style. All haikus are three lines long and keep to a pattern of 5 syllables, seven syllables, five syllables. We hope you enjoy reading our haikus about active and dormant volcanoes.
