Geography

4th October 2022M Hanratty

At Marsden Primary School, we aim to deliver an exciting and engaging geography curriculum. Our intent, when teaching geography, is to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and people within it; to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. Our geography curriculum enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferrable to other curriculum areas.

Beach School – Week 2

18th June 2026L Watson

This week, Year 4 focused on exploring the rock pools at Jackie’s Beach.

We found some amazing creatures….a sea hare, beadlet sea anemones, velvet swimming crab, shore crabs and one edible crab and the entertaining hermit crabs.
We also spotted a rockling, a butter fish and one other (which was too fast for us).

We even spotted the ringed plovers playing on the shore with their chick….we all stood so quiet and watched from a far!

Year 1 Learn About Scotland

3rd February 2026S Hume

In geography, we have been learning about the UK and this week we learned all about Scotland. We found out some interesting facts about this country. We tried eating some haggis and even had a visit from Mrs Hume so she could tell us all about what it was like growing up in Scotland. She even made some Scottish tablet and shortbread for us to eat too. It was delicious!

Year 1 Visit Souter Lighthouse

8th May 2025S Hume

We had a brilliant time today visiting Souter Lighthouse. We found out some interesting facts about the place from our knowledgeable guides and we were all very brave climbing to the top of the tower to see the special light! We even had time to squeeze a bit of fun playtime on the grass near the fog horn with our special bear Paddington.

Year 2 Super Homework!

2nd December 2024S Stothard

In Year 2 we have been looking at “Our World” in Geography. We have been finding out about hot and cold climates. For this week’s homework the children had to choose a hot or cold country to find out about. Myself and Mrs Walton were blown away with the how much effort the children had put in. Well done everyone!!

21st November 2024S Hume

We all had a fantastic time at the Customs House seeing Paddington in Peru and of course we took our Paddington to see it with us!

Year 1 So Far!

29th September 2024S Hume

The children in Year 1 have had a great first few weeks in their new class and everyone has been very busy.

We have explored our feelings through the story Silly Billy and wrote our own Silly Billy stories which we shared with our friends in Reception. Then this week, we have had special messages from Professor Klunk who has been giving us ‘quests’ to complete in our English time. We are excited to find out what he wants us to do next.

We are learning about the features of our Marsden area in geography and we even have a new bear – Paddington –  to help us with this learning. We took him to the windmill and he loved it! Now, we are trying to make our own windmills in class.

We are developing our number knowledge and we made some alligators to help us identify the greater number this week.

We are also investigating all about animals in science and we know not all animals are the same.

It really has been a busy time!
