Christmas Craft Day

By C Marshall2nd December 2016

On Thursday we had an amazing day, it was the 1st December and Marsden made sure everybody felt as festive as possible.

The jumpers some of the children wore were amazing and they all had a great day making a wide range of crafts.

A definite success!

Year Three Visit

By S Hewitson30th November 2016

On Thursday 24th November Year Three visited the Oriental Museum in Durham to find out more about life and death in Ancient Egypt. Once we arrived our day was split into three parts. The first part was in the museum classroom. On each table in the classroom was a box containing real objects from Ancient Egypt. We were very lucky as we could handle and explore the objects Some of these were over 3000 years old!

The second part of our day consisted of looking at all of the valuable Egyptian objects the museum had. We looked at clothing, food, gods and burial objects. Some of us even got to dress up in linen robes.

The final part of our day was by far the best. We were amazed to discover that the museum had a mummy and sarcophagus. We learned that the mummy was a female with a prosthetic arm! Very unusual in Ancient Egypt! Although her name is unknown we enjoyed finding out all about her life through the drawings on her sarcophagus.

We had a fascinating time looking around and asking questions.

Children in Need

By C Marshall18th November 2016

Today the whole school has come together to raise money for Children in Need. Everybody has come to school in their own clothes and taken part in a fundraising raffle.

The kitchen decided to change their dessert and offer every child an individually made Pudsey bear – what an amazing team.

Thank you to our whole community for coming together to raise money for this special charity.

Author visit

By C Marshall18th November 2016

For the first time, we had a REAL LIFE author visit our school and it was amazing.

Philip Ardagh the author of famous series like ‘The Grunts’ ‘Grubtown tales’ and other titles came to our school to talk about how he became a writer and his journey through the books he has written.

Yeah 6,5,4 and 3 enjoyed a one hour workshop with him where he kept everybody (especially the adults) captivated with his stories and ideas.

Remembrance Day

By C Edwards11th November 2016

To mark Remembrance Day, our whole school joined together to show our respects for our fallen soldiers, who sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom.

Each class made their own poppy memorial to show their respects and we joined together for a whole school assembly to acknowledge our two minutes silence.

We shared the names of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for us and we paid our respects to all soldiers who have lost their lives during battle.

Gift for Granny

By C Marshall11th November 2016

Gift

This year, instead of supporting the shoebox appeal as we have done in the past, we thought we would try and support a charity closer to home over the Christmas period. The project we have chosen is called ‘Gift for Granny’.

Please support this good cause, by sending in an unwrapped present for an elderly person – maybe a jigsaw, book, slippers or even a bottle of sherry!

All donations need to be into school by Friday 9th December so that they can be sorted and distributed to the homes before Christmas.

Can I take this opportunity to thank you for getting involved, no matter how big or small your gift we know it will be appreciated and you will have helped us reach more isolated people this Christmas and put a smile someone’s face.

Egyptian Pots!

By S Hewitson11th November 2016

We have had a messy week in Year 3 creating Egyptian pots.

We began the week with looking at designs and investigating what the Egyptians used pots for.

Then we started creating our pots by molding clay into our desired shape. There was a range of shapes and sizes, some even had lids!

Finally we decorated our pots using paints.

Everyone had great fun!

Pyramids!

By S Hewitson11th November 2016

In Year Three we have been looking at the Egyptians. During half term the children took part in a pyramid building competition. They could use any materials and designs that they wanted to and could ask friends and family members to help. Miss Hewitson and Mrs Davies have been astonished by the fantastic pyramids the have children brought in!
