Nursery have been making their own loose parts arrangements to create dragons to celebrate the year of the dragon! We used lots of mathematical vocabulary to describe our finished masterpieces such as long, round, short, big and pointy.
On Friday, all children participated in Number Day to raise money for NSPCC. We completed lots of number based activities and designed our own games which involved lots of calculating!
George from Year 6 has wowed us all with his reasoning and problem solving skills during Number Day! He persevered in solving these difficult ‘Solvemoji’ problems which included negative decimals!
Andy’s Mam has ordered far too many toys – can Y6 work out how many of each toy Andy has?
There are 14 heads and 36 legs. How many of the toys are Rex and how many are Bullseye?
Well done for finding the solution before applying your knowledge to the next challenge Y6!
In Year 2 we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes.
We started our week with Marshmallow Maths where the children had to construct shapes using cocktail sticks and marshmallows. The children really impressed me with their skills and knowledge! Well done Year 2
EYFS Staff were so proud of Marlon and Reuben during planning this week. The boys were planning in the maths investigation area and they used the ladybirds and buttons to explore the part whole model.
Marlon: 10 and 10 makes 20! The 9 and 1 make the other 10.
Reuben: And 7 and 7 make 15. I used 5 and 2 for my 7.
Great work boys!
Nursery staff have been blown away by the progress the children have shown in their pattern making and mathematical vocabulary.
The children went on a pattern hunt with Mrs Elliott around the school, finding patterns and describing them.
In the classroom, the children continued Easter Egg repeating patterns and then made their own repeating patterns. Some children wanted an even harder challenge so we created some ABBABB patterns!
Y4 have started a new maths topic, money. In order to help them with this life skill, the children have created their own shops. By visiting each others shops, the children will learn to estimate amounts, pay for things using the correct money, find out the exact total of their bill and learn how to give (and check!) change.
EYFS have had a lovely time this week celebrating maths and number as part of World Maths Day.
In Nursery, we matched quantity to numerals, made our own rangoli patterns on the ipads and peg boards and took part in a numeral recognition competition.
Reception have been learning all about the number 6, counting dominoes and sorted numerals.
We also loved being Rockstars for the day!
To celebrate World Number Day (08.03.2023), we decided to hold our own Maths Rockstar Day. We took part in different challenges ranging from numeral recognition in Nursery, Numbots activities in Reception and KS1, right up to TTRockstars Battles in KS2. The winners in KS2 were allowed to pick an adult to compete against live in the hall. Of course the children were the fastest thinkers and were victorious over staff. There were also prizes for best Best Dressed and Best Air Guitarist.
