🍬 Yummy Partitioning 🍬

18th May 2021M Hanratty

Today, Nursery had a very tricky number problem to solve. They each picked a cuddly friend to share some counters with (definitely not sweeties!!!). Then they investigated different ways the could share the sweets (I mean counters) between themselves and their friend.

The children discovered that for some numbers you can’t share fairly and some we can. Some children even managed to record what they found by drawing circles.

We certainly didn’t eat any sweets! 😉

Our story in EYFS this week is ‘Hansel and Gretel’. To celebrate the beginning of our new text, we used our fine motor skills to create our own ‘Gingerbread’ inspired houses.

Rapunzel’s Parachute

14th May 2021M Hanratty

This week, Nursery were planning, making and testing ways to rescue Rapunzel from her tall tower. They picked a material for a parachute and attached a tester bear. We then tested them by dropping them from the top of the ladders (safely in Mrs Hanratty’s arms!).

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

6th May 2021C Edwards

In EYFS we have been learning about the story of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. We have really enjoyed exploring this text and have carried out lots of activities to learn about the story. Reception have produced some amazing artwork inspired by Monet’s ‘Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies’ painting. We also used the apparatus in the hall to practise our gymnastics.

The Three Little Pigs

30th April 2021C Edwards

We’ve had a fantastic week learning about the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We designed and build our own houses, used our ‘huffing’ and ‘puffing’ skills to blow paint and we also produced our own writing about the story.

Super Scientists

25th April 2021C Edwards

As part of our ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ week, Reception took part in a super Science experiment. We placed our jelly teddies into one of four liquids: water, salt water, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. We shared our predictions together and the children had some excellent ideas. Willow thought that her teddy might ‘dissolve’ and Lilly-May thought hers could ‘melt’. Lots of the children suggested that the colours might mix together. We left our bears overnight and were amazed to see what had happened!

Why not try this experiment at home?

Porridge Making

23rd April 2021M Hanratty

To end our learning of the story of “Goldilocks and The Three Bears”, Nursery children decided to become mini cooks and make our own porridge. We measured the ingredients out, mixed it together and popped it in the microwave. Then we gobbled it all up before Goldilocks could eat it.

How did it taste? It was “just right”!
