Scrumptious Sandwiches!

By M Hanratty8th February 2016

As part of our science and design technology topics around healthy eating, Year 3 designed, made and evaluated their own healthy sandwiches. We looked at the components of a sandwich and how to optimise the healthiness of our sandwiches. The children gained valuable kitchen skills and prepared their sandwiches under the guidance of Mrs Potter, Miss Jordan and Miss Slater.

Once the children had finished making their sandwiches they reached the best part, eating them! The children had a great time and enjoyed their healthy snack despite their being no chocolate spread in sight!

On Thursday, Year 4 took part in a bikeability course. On the day, they practised various skills in order to help them feel more confident and in control when riding a bike. All of the children had a great time and made massive progress through the day.
Well done Year 4!

Citizenship Award

By M Hanratty1st February 2016

At Marsden, we are proud of all our students. Today we celebrated those students who have exemplary behaviour and show British values.
Each teacher nominated one child from each class who has shown that they are caring and and an excellent friend.
Our winner from Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 was Laura (Y1). Everyone agreed that she is a very thoughtful child who loves to looks after others. She is always a good friend to everyone.
Our winner from Key Stage 2 was Josh (Y5. He has taken part in a variety of fundraising activities for the charity Cancer Connections. He even took part in the Boxing Day Dip! Very brave!
Congratulations go to Summer (reception), India (Y2), Elizabeth (Y3), Shane (Y4) and Harvey (Y6) who were also nominated.
Finally a big thank you to PC Andy for coming to present the award.

Mrs O’Brien’s words of wisdom….

By C Marshall26th January 2016

This week the Year 6 children put on their ‘thinking caps’ for maths and had a go at the sample maths paper.

Their attitude towards the test was mature and I am sure they will rise to the challenge and produce fantastic results for Marsden.

Keep practicing, keep working, keep smiling!

You can do it.

I wonder what the children thought……..?

Summer School – Year 6

By C Marshall15th January 2016

Whitburn C of E Academy Transition Summer School

The academy will be running its annual Transition Summer School in the first full week of the summer holidays, Monday 25th July to Thursday 28rd July, from 9:30am to 3:00pm each day.  This will be open to all current Year 6 pupils who are joining us in September.  There will be a cost of £30 in total for the summer school, though pupils who are eligible for Pupil Premium will not be charged. The charge has been necessitated as of 2016, summer schools will no longer receive funding from central government; the £30 charge will to help us meet a proportion of the running costs.

We intend to provide a wide range of activities to give pupils a taste of secondary school life and to offer an opportunity to familiarise them with some of our staff and facilities.  There will be a range of subjects on offer and learning will be delivered through fun activities, rather than formal lessons. Pupils who request a place must commit to attending on all four days.

Further details and confirmation will be sent out later in the summer term,

A word of thanks

By C Marshall6th January 2016

Christingle

For the first time last term, we took the whole school to Whitburn Parish Church for a lovely Christingle Service. The children all enjoyed it and it was a most amazing sight when all of the candles were lit and the light was shared with the whole school. This service would not have been possible without the very generous donation from J R Holland Food Services. They donated all of the oranges free of charge, which was an amazing gift to our school. To send our thanks, Lily, Rachael and Rosie from Year 6 sent a thank you letter explaining why this gift was so important to our festive celebrations.

This service and the people both within our school and the wider community who made it happen showed us all the true meaning of Christmas.

Carol Concert

By M Hanratty19th December 2015

A massive thank you to all the families and friends of Marsen who turned up to listen to our carol concert.

It was our first open air concert and I’m sure you will agree it was a massive success! The children worked really hard and sang beautifully. As always, we were extremely proud of their effort and behaviour.

On behalf of all the staff and governors at Marsden, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
