World Book Day 2016

4th March 2016M Hanratty

Today, the children enjoyed a day celebrating their love of reading!

Throughout the day, the children took part in many different activities such as book mark making, writing their own picture books, designing the reading area for their class and even making hedgehogs from clay.

The most successful activity however was our paired reading session. Our Key Stage 2 children were paired up with a younger child to share a story with them. The younger children enjoyed their stories and the older children really enjoyed sharing their love of reading with enthusiastic young readers. All of the teachers were incredibly proud of all the children.

What a fantastic day!

We are very proud to announce that they sailed through to the next round!
They children were cool under the pressure and competed in different rounds to show their spelling skills.
The children that took part were Abigail, Ben, Isaac and Lucy. Now let’s support them in the final, we know you can do it!

Guinness World Record Attempt

By C Marshall26th February 2016

Marsden Primary school took part in ‘THE BUMBER BOOK QUIZ.’

On 22nd February from 2-3pm, our whole school gathered together to be quizzed on their knowledge of contemporary and classic kids’ books, with a chance to become an official record breaker.

We gathered in the hall with 2 official aduicators and enjoyed testing our knowledge of the books we all love to read.

Everybody had a feat time – even thought some of the questions were quite hard.

Chinese New Year 2016

By C Marshall26th February 2016

On the 11th February, the whole school celebrated their first Chinese New Year.

We could not believe how amazing all of the children looked with their beautiful costumes and amazing hairstyles!!

During the day, each class completed a range of different activities – making dragons, learning Chinese writing, creating a lantern and many many more things.

Lunchtime was very special, with our kitchen being transformed into a Chinese restaurant. Every child was amazed and many children tried something they had never eaten before.

Have a look at the gallery and see if you can spot yourself.

Rainforest Debate

24th February 2016M Hanratty

Year 5 have been debating the topic of deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest.

We thought about reasons why the rainforest should be saved and also why we need its resources.

Mrs Watson gave us a role to take on the debate. We were either: Jaguars, tribespeople, conservationists, oil workers or owners of logging companies.

Some of us had to argue for something we didn’t agree with!

After our debate we write persuasive speeches in role.

Mathematician Extraordinaire!

By C Marshall11th February 2016

Our children in Year 5 were set a mathematical challenge by Mrs Watson. They were given the numbers 1-30 and asked to make each number using only the digits 1,2,3,4  and any multiplication method. This challenge had caused many teachers a headache, especially when asked to make the number 29, and we heard that only one Year 6 boy at Harton Primary had managed it.

However, our very own Alfie Dewing, rose to the challenge and managed to calculate how to make every single number!! I think we may have a young Einstein in the making!!
