Awards 2016

On Monday we came together to celebrate achievement across the school and recognise specific children for outstanding achievement. This year our awards were divided into three categories:

* Pride & Presentation

* Progress

* Positive Behaviour

All of the staff spent many hours agonising over the choices and discussing all of the positive aspects of every child. Eventually the decisions were made and the children stood in front of the whole school to accept their awards.

Each child got a book, specially chosen for them, and a special Marsden medal to remember their achievements long into the future.

So, the winners were:

Pokemon Go Advice for Parents

As you will all be aware from the local and national news  there is a new game/app that can be downloaded directly to mobile phones  called Pokemon Go and works via a phone’s location service and sends you messages telling you where to go to “find” a Pokemon, which is a virtual creature. The user then has to physically go to the location shown to “collect” the Pokemon. It was launched in America and elsewhere a couple of weeks ago  and although it has not been officially launched in the UK yet there are many people who have managed to download it already.

 

There are concerns that the game could present dangers to younger children and other vulnerable people as there are ways for users to “lure” other users to certain areas  (you may have seen some reports in the news regarding this). In light of the forthcoming school  summer holidays can we please remind children and vulnerable young people playing this game not to go anywhere alone as they may be placing themselves in a vulnerable situation.

Europe Day!

On Thursday 14th July, Year 3 will having a day to celebrate Europe. We have been looking at all the countries and would like a day to pull all of our learning together. We will play trivia games, taste the different cuisine and even make some of our own.

The children can come to school in non-uniform as a country. This could be:

  • Dressing in the colours of the country’s flag (e.g. red for Turkey)
  • A famous landmark from the country (The Eiffel Tower for France)
  • Something associated with the country (Flamenco dress for Spain)

 

Please do not go out and buy new things.

The Great British Den Building

In Year 2 we had a wonderful morning working with our parents creating dens to end our explorers unit.

There was stiff competition and Mrs Marshall found it really difficult to choose a winner – thank you to all of our Mam’s and Dad’s for their help.

Year 6 V The Police!

Year 6 have again risen to the challenge and taken on the Police football team.

Due to weather problems we had an indoor and outdoor match.

Everybody had a great time and enjoyed the experience of getting to know each other.

The finals of Young Engineer

On Wednesday 4 children from Year 5 and 4 children from Year 2 traveled to the South Tyneside final for Young Engineer.
Year 2 were judged runners-up out of teams from all over South Tyneside.
At least ten other schools were involved, each with two teams per category.
The categories were:
* Engineer ks2  This is where the car had to have a chassis, motor and bodywork. It needed to move in straight line, up and down a ramp.
Our team were  commented on for the aero-dynamic shape of their cars.
* Apprentice Level 1 and Apprentice level 2 KS1
The car  needed to have a good description, design,looks and movement.
Beth and Olivia had obviously got most of these.
* The designs of many cars in our year five were of a good standard and this was a good effort from both the whole class and the two winning team in year five.
The winning car now goes to Newcastle to see how far they can go in the regional finals – good luck.

Year 5 engineering challenge

Year 5 have been continuing the engineering theme this week and have made some amazing vehicles. Our judges have had a hard job choosing the winning cars, but…. Lucy & Kyle and Emma & Ethan are heading to the final tomorrow.

Police Bike ride

Our Year 5 and 6 children had a great time this morning cycling along the coast and enjoying an ice cream.

They were a little bit tired when they came back but had a great time.
