On Friday, many members of the school staff entered our very own Marsden Bake off!! Competition was fierce and Mrs Coffey took on the big responsibility of tasting ALL of the cakes to decide which one would become our ‘star baker.’

In Year One, we have been learning about the story ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell. We have been working very hard, writing our own stories, learning about owls and acting out the story in small groups. We even had a special visitor come into school to answer our questions about the story. We were very excited when ‘Mummy Owl’ came to talk to us!
REMINDER
On Friday we will be holding our coffee afternoon in the school hall from 2:15 – 3:15pm.
We hope as many people as possible can come, we will have entertainment from the school choir in the hall.
Cakes will be sold during the day to the children to raise extra money.

Reception, Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 children are attending a Harvest Festival at Whitburn Parish Church on Wednesday 5th October 2016. The children will walk down to the Church accompanied by school staff at 9.30pm and return in time for lunch.
This year we are donating food parcels to the South Shields Food Bank and would appreciate donations of long life milk, tinned meats, tinned fruit, pasta sauce, rice pudding, sugar, coffee, long life fruit juice.

At the beginning of the school year, it is our tradition that the Year 6 children are given a chance to be elected for House Captain and Vice Captain.
Competition was tough this year, with a massive effort being put into their speeches. All of the children in KS2 were asked to vote and the winners were:

Year 3 had a great day exploring foods, flags and even making their own country as part of Europe Day.
We made some delicious spaghetti bolognaise and some Greek butter butter biscuits.
Everyone had a great day!
Tomorrow is the day we add more children to our Marsden family. Everyone in the Foundation Stage is so excited to see all of the new starters in their smart uniform.
As well as the new children, we are adding someone else to our team, a new class pet! Our gecko has had her bath, packed her bag and can’t wait to move into the Nursery classroom.
There’s only one problem… She doesn’t have a name yet. Can you help think of a name? Leave a comment with your suggestion on the post.

Well, yesterday saw the end of an era for our Year 6 children. Their journey through Marsden Primary School has been so special and even though I only shared their final year, I know just how important they have been to the school. They left our school last night beaming with bride into the arms of their parents and carers, which was wonderful to watch, we can’t wait to hear all about their next steps over the years.
Can we also send out a big THANK YOU to every parent who sent in gifts to school this week, from just a personal point of view I was overwhelmed with the good wishes and can not believe the generosity of our school community.
We have had a great 2015/16 and are already planning the exciting things for next year.
We hope everyone has a great summer and we look forward to seeing you back refreshed and raring to go on Tuesday September 6th 2016.
