Year Six visits ‘The Word’

By M O'Brien23rd January 2018

Year Six visited The Word in South Shields for a series of activities revolving around filming some  scripts written about World War Two.

The children also had a fascinating session on constructing Lego robots and then using bluetooth to link them to i-pads.

Here are some pictures of what we did.

Program the MILO robot to move forward

Following the construction detail carefully

Easy as that.

I can help you sort this.

Here goes!

Wow. It works!

It’s moving-slowly.

I dare you to move.

We made that!

I am sure that it works- somehow.

We can get it to go in a straight line.

Eventually, we got it to work.

Let’s make it do something else.

I can get it moving.

Let’s have a race.

You just press this button and it moves.

Can you see where this goes?

We made it work.

There’s a piece missing.

I finished first.

Just press this and it will surely work.

Look at how fast it goes!

Year Six find out about food for healthy hearts.

By M O'Brien12th January 2018

Two scientists from Greenshift education came into school to help Year Six find out more about keeping their heart healthy. Katie and Angela lead the class through a series of activities – they found out that our children knew quite a lot already about how the heart functions and how to keep it healthy.

There! I can see the green spinach in that. It can’t be healthy.

What do you like to eat?

Mix it well to mask the taste of the banana.

Look at all that fruit.

We made a smoothie and now it’s time to taste it.

That was yummy!

Will you give spinach a try?

What are my favourite foods?

Now add milk.

Listening to how the heart works.

What shall we put into our smoothie?

I know that!

Listening carefully about how our heart works

Blitz it in a food blender.

Which foods taste good together?

Do you like pizza too?

Which food belongs to specific food groups

Citizenship Award

20th December 2017C Edwards

PC Wilkinson joined us today to celebrate our Citizenship Award. It was very difficult to choose our nominees as we were looking for children who have good attendance, excellent behaviour and a great attitude at all times.

The nominees from Foundation Stage and Key Stage One were: Ruby, Lilly and Lainee.
The nominees from Key Stage Two were: Gabriel, Alex, Alanya and Tom M.

Our lucky winners for our Citizenship Award 2017 were Lilly and Gabriel!

Well done everyone!

Winter Wonderland

By M Hanratty19th December 2017

Today, the Nursery Children had a fantastic time at West Boldon Lodge learning all about being an Elf.

We started by making our own Christmas hats before exploring the Candy Cane forest. We searched for made Christmas jigsaws and sang Christmas songs as we toasted marsh mellows by the campfire. Then we went back inside to help deliver Christmas presents and drink some hot chocolate.

However the best part of the day was meeting Santa and finding out if we were on the Nice list.

As always the children were excellent ambassadors for the school.

Did you have a favourite part? Comment below.

Polar Express

By M Hanratty19th December 2017

Wow! What a fantastic night was had by all at our very first Family Movie Night.

The school was transformed into a railway cinema and the children were greeted by the conductor who stamped their ticket. At the end of the movie we even had a special guest, Santa! He gave all the children a special believe bell.

Thank you to all of the parents and children for coming and helping to raise funds for the school.

Well Done Mrs Elliott and thank you for organising such a successful night!
