Great North Run T-Shirt Competition

Preparing children for going back to school (when we don’t know when this will be)

At present, we do not know how or when our children will return to school. This is a challenging time for all children, particularly those with Special Educational Needs.

I have been looking for resources and advice to support families during this transition and have found a series of short videos, offering lots of tips and advice for preparing children for their return to school; whenever that may be.

Although the course is aimed at children with Autism and SEND, I think it has lots of useful information which will support all children during these challenging times. To access the videos, please click here.

ChatterPack

‘ChatterPack’ is a voluntary community project, which offers free support for schools, parents and children with SEND. They have a wide range of resources including free websites, a monthly newsletter and lots of resources to support a wide range of Special Educational Needs.

The Oak National Academy

The Oak National Academy is a free online learning platform, supported by the Government, which provides lessons for children of all ages based on all areas of the curriculum.

The Academy also has a series of specialist focus groups including: Communication and Language, Numeracy and Therapies. These areas provide support for all children but may be particularly useful to those children with SEND.

Support materials for children with dyslexia

With children now learning from home, this can bring many diverse challenges. One of these challenges is supporting children with SEND.

Social, Emotional and Mental-Health Support during COVID-19

As well as looking after our physical health, it is also important to look after our mental well-being; especially during these unprecedented times.

If your child, or anyone in your family, is struggling to cope with the current situation, ‘Young Minds’ have a range of resources and support bases available to help.

The ‘Young Minds’ website has tips and advice on how to support your child’s mental health during the pandemic and also has links to external services, which can provide further support and information.

🏃‍♂️ Great North Run T-Shirt Competition 👕

Although we are unsure whether the Great North Run will go ahead this year, the Great North Run Company are continuing their Mini and Junior run t-shirt competition and entries are welcomed from all pupils!

To enter:
1) Think about what you would like your t-shirt to look like.
2) Choose three colours – these are the only colours that you are allowed to use!
3) Use either the template provided, or plain paper, to design your own t-shirt for the Mini and Junior Great North Run.
4) Include your name and school at the bottom of your piece of paper.
5) E-mail a photograph or scan your design and e-mail it to [email protected] by 12pm on Tuesday 19th May 2020.

I will then e-mail them on so that they can be entered into the competition!

The design template is included below if you would like to use it, however you can also use plain paper.

🏃🏽‍♀️ Keeping Active at Home 🏃‍♂️

It can be really hard trying to think of different ways to stay active at home, especially as we’re limited to one hour of outdoor exercise time each day.

Tyne and Wear Sports have created a website which has lots of ideas for keeping active; both inside and outside and best of all it’s free!

The website has links to Disney dance routines, free online platforms and lots of other great ideas and resources too.
