Fantastic Funky Fingers

6th November 2020C Edwards

In Reception we are completing a daily ‘Funky Fingers’ challenge to continue to strengthen our finger, thumb and hand muscles. Across the week we have completed four challenges: Dough Disco, Firework Finger Grab, Firework cutting and threading. We have loved doing our daily finger exercises and we can’t wait to see what our challenges will be next week!

I set Reception ‘Funky Fingers’ challenges for their homework.

Here are some of their amazing photographs from their ‘Funky Fingers’ activities at home:

🎇 Fabulous Fireworks 🎆

5th November 2020M Hanratty

To celebrate Bonfire Night, the Foundation Stage Children have been creating their own fabulous firework pictures. The children used tubes to print with and then added a little extra sparkle with some glitter.

They look amazing!

Happy Halloween from Foundation Stage!

23rd October 2020C Edwards

Nursery and Reception have had an amazing day celebrating Halloween. We’ve been trick or treating on a special Halloween hunt, decorated biscuits as ghosts and pumpkins, made spooky lanterns and had a fantastic Halloween party.

We’ve had so much fun but we’re definitely ready for our half term holidays now!

Happy Halloween!

🎃 Pumpkin Exploration 🎃

21st October 2020M Hanratty

The EYFS team would love to say a big “Thank You” to everyone who donated a pumpkin to support learning in the Foundation Stage.

The children have focused on tool use and co-ordination by hammering nails into their skin.  We had a lot of discussion around how to stay safe when using tools and we wore safety goggles to protect our eyes.

They have also loved exploring what we found inside the pumpkin, discussing the different textures and what the purpose of the seeds are.

📚 Reading in Reception 📚

21st October 2020C Edwards

At this time of year, we would usually invite you into school to find out about how we teach early reading in Reception. However, due to the current circumstances we are unfortunately unable to do this.

In order to support your child with their home reading, I have uploaded a presentation which looks at how we teach children to read at Marsden. I hope it helps!

Zelda the Witch

15th October 2020C Edwards

This week, Reception had a visit from Zelda the Witch. She noticed that lots of our toys were being broken and she wanted to help us to learn how to share and be kind to each other.

On Tuesday night, Zelda cast a magic spell and locked lots of favourite toys away! She left us a letter, explaining that we had to show her that we could be kind and look after our things. We talked about how we could show Zelda that we were sorry and luckily, after a good day on Wednesday, by Thursday morning she returned lots of our toys!

After completing some special challenges on Thursday morning, Zelda left us a special surprise and gave Miss Edwards some of her magic potion. She also gave us some time to play with the iPads as she was so pleased by what she had seen on her witch camera.

We are continuing to work hard to look after our toys so hopefully, by tomorrow, we will be able to play in all of our favourite areas again!

Amazing Autumn

8th October 2020M Hanratty

The Foundation Stage Children have had a great time learning about our word of the week “Autumn”. We’ve been exploring all of the fantastic treasures they found on their walk for the Parent Partnership homework and talked about Harvest time.

Check out our fantastic work!

Here We Are

7th October 2020M Hanratty

To welcome the children back to school in September, each class bubble shared the story ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers.
We had great fun learning about our wonderful world and thinking about the special places, people and animals in it. It made us all think about how lucky we are to have such an amazing world.
We created some beautiful work to share our thoughts with everyone in school.

What brilliant work it is!

Sukkot!

2nd October 2020M Hanratty

The Foundation Stage Children have spent some time today learning about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. To mark the occasion, we had a special picnic in the hall and used plates that were decorated by our friends.
