In Y2 we have been learning about the Great Fire of London.
We have made bread, like Thomas Farriner, as well as making old paper and writing a diary entry, like Samuel Pepys.
The children have also been gardening with Mrs Davies
This week in Foundation Stage we have been learning about Harvest and have been reading the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’.
As part of our Harvest activities we have been exploring vegetables to make our own artwork. Lots of the children chose to make faces and we talked about our favourite vegetables at home. This is Emily’s vegetable picture of a scarecrow. She thought carefully about what she could use to make the hair and the eyes and used peppers as the scarecrow’s cheeks.
We have been busy playing on the IPads and had great fun exploring the number games with our friends.
We have also made pizzas using the ingredients that the children brought in from home. They enjoyed rolling out the dough and adding their toppings but the children’s favourite part was definitely the taste testing!
This morning, Marsden’s fantastic choir joined together with Whitburn Primary’s choir to celebrate the harvest at Whitburn church. They did a fantastic job and they made staff and parents very proud.
A big thank you goes to Mr O’Brien for putting in a lot of time to help the choir sound as marvellous as they did. 🎶🎼

Over the summer holidays, lots of our children took part in a reading challenge. At Marsden, we know how important it is to love reading and actively encourage children to join their local library.
Well done to all the children who took part, escially Freya, Lucie and Reuben from Year 4 on their special awards. If you would like to join in the fun, pop into Whitburn Library to join in their spooky Halloween activities.
On Wednesday 30th September, Year 3 were learning about how computers work. We looked at how computers are linked to networks and drew our own home network.
In the second session, we looked at how we can search the internet using keywords. We can access information from different countries at the touch of button but sometimes search engines can give us irrelevant information. During this session we sorted through the information to find answers.

Exciting news! To expand our website, we are making a page to show all the staff who work at Marsden. We would like your help. We want you to draw a pictures of the adults who work in your class. We also need pictures of lunchtime staff, kitchen staff, office staff, cleaners and our caretaker. Pictures will be taken to the school council meeting to be judged.
I can’t wait to see all of your fabulous art work!

In Year Four, our History topic this term is the Romans. This week, we have been learning about the Roman Army. In Design Technology, we designed and created a Roman shield.
After a very exciting election process, our school council has been selected for this year. The job comes with a lot of responsibility and all of the children are excited for the challenges ahead.
Miss Hewitson will be leading the council and has lots of exciting things planned, including links with other schools and a chance to have the
children’s voice heard with their wishes and plans for the coming year. We wish them all the best and look
forward to seeing the changes they have planned.

On Tuesday, the Year 6 children took part in an election to find the new captain and vice captain of each colour group. There were some fantastic speeches and everybody who took part should feel extremely proud of themselves.
