Year Three had a fantastic visit to The Oriental Museum today. We found out about Egyptian clothes, tools, Gods and mummies. We even got to see a real mummy! It smelled disgusting!!
A special thank you to Emily’s Mum and Lucas’ Mum for helping us have a brilliant day!
Halloween has arrived to the Early Years!
A big thank you to everyone for the donated pumpkins which are being put to use already. We are focusing on tool use and co-ordination by hammering nails into their skin. They will be used for other activities in the upcoming weeks.
As well as exploring pumpkins, in challenge we have been making glitter spider webs, spooky shape pictures, building castles using blocks and junk and participating in role play activities as Halloween characters.
The Nursery have also made some spooky soup with “Winnie the Witch” by listening to sounds (b-a-t) and even turned each other, and me, into a Mummy.
As part of our Harvest Festival, each child created a special leaf to share something that they are thankful for. Mr O’Brien has created a fantastic display at Whitburn Parish Church to showcase all of the children’s work and some were read out as part of a special prayer during Sunday’s church service.
The congregation were very complimentary of the children’s work.
Yesterday we found a lost owl in Year One! Our special visitor has been telling us all about her three owl babies: Sarah, Percy and Bill. We asked Mammy Owl lots of questions to find out who she is and where she is from and she then told us her special story ‘Owl Babies’. Mammy Owl then split us into groups to retell the story by ourselves.
We have some brilliant story tellers in Year One!
Today Year Six experienced life as evacuees, sent away to work at Beamish Home Farm. We took part in workshops about life in the Home Guard and what happened during ‘The Blackout’. The children also had great fun exploring the other areas of the museum and were glad to return home to their own homes at the end of the day! A great time had by all!
The EYFS unit has had a mouth watering aroma in the air this week as we have been tasting breads from around the world, baking bread and making our own pizzas.
Here are some pictures of us making our delicious creations:
On Thursday 27th September the girls football team took part in a tournament at Boldon School.
Here is the match report:
Y6: Alania, Georgie, Ruby, Aleyna and Erin
Y5: Daisy, Lyra, Autumn
First we played Harton A; unfortunately we lost 1:0. We were very unlucky to lose this match but we played our best and that is all you can do. Daisy actually scored but this goal did not count as the referee didn’t see it and Alania was very close to make it an equaliser!
The second match against St Oswald’s Hebburn saw Daisy take the first goal, with the ball smashing off the goal post and being reflected in by the other team. Great defending and goal keeping by our team, kept a clean sheet and Daisy kicked home another two goals, earning a hat trick on her first play for the Marsden team. We all agreed she should get Player of the Match for this round of the tournament…Well Done Daisy!
Everyone had a great afternoon, enjoyed the game and being part of the team. We can’t wait until the next round in Novemeber.
The children have been having great time in Mandarin club with Iris! This week they were looking at colours and numbers.
Marsden’s Young Engineers have started their work this year by dismantling last year’s car- and what a keen lot we have too!
This week some of last year’s group with our current team visited the ‘Bring it On’ Science and engineering event at the newly opened Beacon of Light School in Sunderland.
