Linked to World Book Day and our text of the week “The Smartest Giant in Town”, EYFS decide to be the kindest children in the land! We have hidden books all around Whitburn for children to enjoy. We encourage you to read the book at home and then hide it again for someone else to find!

EYFS have loved sharing our favourite stories together at school and looking at everyone’s fantastic costumes!
Everyone loved coming together to see all the fantastic costumes to celebrate World Book Day. Even the staff got involved and dressed up as the characters from the book Peter Pan.
EYFS had a great day learning how to make pancakes. We made the batter, chose our own toppings and then most importantly tasted them!
Tomorrow we will write the recipe to help others make pancakes.
EYFS have been learning about St David’s Day. We were very lucky as Mrs Clark came into school to tell us all about Wales. She taught us some special Welsh words, showed us the Welsh flag and made us delicious Welsh cakes too!
EYFS would like to say a big thank you to Miss Hope for all the help she has given us this year. We wish her the best of luck in her new placement!
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, EYFS decided to make some love heart cards for the other classes and staff of Marsden!

This week, EYFS have started to look at the celebration of “Lunar New Year” which is often referred to as “Chinese New Year”.
The Nursery children were fascinated by the dancing dragons in the clips we watched of how Lunar New Year is celebrated. We made our own dragons using loose parts in our maths session focusing on describing the shapes. We talked about their long bodies, round heads, pointy teeth and spiky horns.

This week, the Nursery text of the week was “The Gruffalo’s Child” by Julia Donaldson.
We loved the marks the different creatures made in the snow and wanted to try this for ourselves! Unfortunately, we didn’t have any real snow so we used shaving foam and salt trays to make the different marks the characters made. We also repeated one of the famous phrases from the text as we made our marks, “Aha! Oho! A trail in the snow!“
What a fantastic first week back our Nursery children have had. Lots of learning and creating friendships with our new class mates. We’ve explored the environment, made New Year’s Resolutions and discovered all about the number 1!
