In Year 2 we had a wonderful morning working with our parents creating dens to end our explorers unit.

There was stiff competition and Mrs Marshall found it really difficult to choose a winner – thank you to all of our Mam’s and Dad’s for their help.

The finals of Young Engineer

On Wednesday 4 children from Year 5 and 4 children from Year 2 traveled to the South Tyneside final for Young Engineer.
Year 2 were judged runners-up out of teams from all over South Tyneside.
At least ten other schools were involved, each with two teams per category.
The categories were:
* Engineer ks2  This is where the car had to have a chassis, motor and bodywork. It needed to move in straight line, up and down a ramp.
Our team were  commented on for the aero-dynamic shape of their cars.
* Apprentice Level 1 and Apprentice level 2 KS1
The car  needed to have a good description, design,looks and movement.
Beth and Olivia had obviously got most of these.
* The designs of many cars in our year five were of a good standard and this was a good effort from both the whole class and the two winning team in year five.
The winning car now goes to Newcastle to see how far they can go in the regional finals – good luck.

Chicken House

Jake from Year 2 was so impressed with our chickens, he went home and decided they needed a better house.

Working with his Mam and Dad, he produced a chicken mansion, with it’s very own garage.

I feel a new career is ahead of him.

 

Pirates take over Marsden!

Year 1 have spent all term learning about pirates and what they do.

To bring the unit to a close they decided to have a special ‘Pirate Day.’

The children AND staff all looked amazing and had some outstanding outfits.

During the day we:

  •  made pirate maps and used tea to stain them.
  • learnt a pirate song called, a pirate you shall be.
  • designed our own islands and made them using modrock.

We had a lovely day the children loved it and all looked fantastic.
Pirate costume winners were Jack and Erin.

Wake up and Shake up

This morning, 46 children from Key Stage One and EYFS came to school for 8:30 to take part in our healthy living week.

They worked with Miss Gilbert to do a range of exciting work-outs!

It was an enjoyable session.

YELLOW Champions

Yesterday the YELLOW team got their treat for winning the House Points.

They walked all of the way down to Whitburn Village and spent the morning in Cornthwaite Park, enjoying tennis, football and using the equipment. As we expected, their behaviour was amazing.

Well done Yellow team.

Colours in year 2

Over the past few weeks, Year Two have enjoyed reading two stories by Drew Daywalt – ‘The Day The Crayons Quit’ and ‘The Day The Crayons Came Home’.

From this story, we have written some colour poems, composed letters to the main character, Duncan, and created our own crayon stories.
We even had a try at making our very own rainbow crayons which were magnificent!

As an end to all of our crayon work, we looked into the work of Picasso and tried to recreate our own Picasso Portraits. As Picasso said,  ‘Each child is an artist’
