To follow on from our school harvest festival, the children in Year 2 explored the Jewish Sukkot festival and we made some Challah bread that is eaten during Sukkot.
It was delicious.
What brilliant bakers we are!

Mason loved this activity. Please could we have the recipe as he would like to make some more at home. 🙂
Here’s the recipe we followed.
How To Make Challah Bread
Ingredients
500g strong white flour
2 spoons of yeast
10 spoons of sugar
1 spoon of salt
300ml warm water
6 egg yolks
6 spoons of oil
What You Do
1. Wash your hands.
2. Put the flour, salt, sugar and yeast into a bowl and stir together.
3. Carefully pour the egg yolks, oil and water into the bowl.
4. Mix it all together until you get a dough.
5. Take the dough out of the bowl and on a clean table knead the dough for five minutes.
7. Braid the bread dough and leave to rise in a warm place for one hour.
8. Brush the bread dough with a little egg white and place the bread into an oven and cook for about thirty minutes.
9. Take the bread out of the oven and leave to cool before eating.
Enjoy making it at home!
