Tomorrow marks the 75th anniversary of VE or Victory in Europe Day, which brought an end to hostilities in Europe during WWII (trying not to give too much away, as part of Year 4’s home learning this week is to find out what VE Day is and why we celebrate it 😉 ).
I thought we could provide a few fun and creative activities that you might like to complete at home with your families to mark the occasion.
It would be lovely to see how you are marking VE Day at home. Please remember to celebrate responsibly, adhering to government guidelines.

We had some spare paper plates in the kitchen so I turned them into a game of go fish. I put the the numbers 1-5 on the plates (two of each number) and turned them upside down so we couldn’t see the numbers. Pick two plates to turn over and if they match you keep the plates. You could use numbers, dots or a mixture to test is you can match numeral to quantity.
You could use pieces of paper instead of plates and draw fish on them to make them more colourful and creative.
More confident children could use larger numbers and older children could have addition/subtraction problems and answers e.g. one plate has 2+1 on and another with 3 on.
KS1/2 children could use this game to test multiplication and division facts. If you are feeling super confident you could even put equivalent fractions on the plates.

Well done to everyone who has been on Spelling Shed this last week. There are lots of children playing games and completing their teacher’s spelling lists.
It has been close for the top spelling group but our current year group leaders are … Year 3! Great work Year 3. I think you really listened to Mrs Carr’s encouragement. Who will lead this time next week?

These super speller will receive a honeypot reward on their account and for some it will be the second week in a row they have received this! Well done. Who will it be next week?
There is still one day left on the school spelling challenge and it is close at the top. Remember the top five will get a honeypot reward on their account. Challenge closes at 6pm on Thursday 30th. Keep spelling.
As well as looking after our physical health, it is also important to look after our mental well-being; especially during these unprecedented times.
