Today, we walked down to Whitburn Church to celebrate our Harvest Festival. There was some fantastic singing from all our Choir and the rest of the school. Thank you for all the kind donations which will be taken to Hospitality and Hope.
In maths this week, we have been ordering and comparing numbers to 1,000,000!
To help us get started, we played a game where we rolled the dice to make a 4 digit number and then had to work out where it would go on the number line. We tried different number lines out to make it trickier as we first had to work out what the intervals were going up in.
This week, Y5 used their knowledge of dissolving to see if the temperature of water affected how quickly sugar dissolves in water. We made sure to use the scientific names for each stage/item. We know the water is the solvent, sugar is the solute and the finished mixture is called a solution.
We correctly predicted that hot water would dissolve the sugar quicker.
This week, Y5 started a new English text called Beowulf. It is an epic poem about a Danish kingdom which is being terrorised by a foul fiend named Grendel.
Today we put our selves in the shoes of King Hrothgar and the children took turn to ask each other questions in role about the situation. We have some excellent actors and interviewers in Y5!
Congratulations to our winners!
Today in DT Year 2 their challenge was to see if they could build a chair structure using only paper. At first we thought it was impossible! However the children realised that if you made the paper into cylinders it would be stronger. Everyone worked in a team and every team was able to put a book on the top! Some could even hold all 22 books! Well done!
Year 3 have had a fabulous time starting the juniors. We are settling in well and enjoying getting stuck into our learning. We have been using base 10 to help with our maths, going outside to do our art and enjoying our PE lessons ➕
Today we listened to the story of Noah.
Congratulations to our winners!
