Show and Tell

15th October 2020M Hanratty

Don’t forget, it’s “Show and Tell” day tomorrow for Nursery.

You can send your videos or photographs to [email protected]

The children gain a lot of confidence talking about something special to them and is a critical part in developing listening and communication and language skills. Each child sits on the special show and tell chair to share their picture or video. It’s definitely one of Nursery’s favourite sessions.

Zelda the Witch

15th October 2020C Edwards

This week, Reception had a visit from Zelda the Witch. She noticed that lots of our toys were being broken and she wanted to help us to learn how to share and be kind to each other.

On Tuesday night, Zelda cast a magic spell and locked lots of favourite toys away! She left us a letter, explaining that we had to show her that we could be kind and look after our things. We talked about how we could show Zelda that we were sorry and luckily, after a good day on Wednesday, by Thursday morning she returned lots of our toys!

After completing some special challenges on Thursday morning, Zelda left us a special surprise and gave Miss Edwards some of her magic potion. She also gave us some time to play with the iPads as she was so pleased by what she had seen on her witch camera.

We are continuing to work hard to look after our toys so hopefully, by tomorrow, we will be able to play in all of our favourite areas again!

🧙‍♀️Spooky Spells 🧙‍♀️

15th October 2020M Hanratty

This week, while at spooky school, Nursery discovered a secret. Mrs Hanratty is not just a teacher, she is also a witch! We made magical potions using ingredients such as bat’s blood, monster snots and even spider poo! Once all of the ingredients were mixed together we shouted our secret spell, “Iggity, ziggity, zaggity zoom!”

As we were feeling mischievous, we tricked the other teachers into drinking our potion, telling them it was juice. Instantly they were transformed into cats! Don’t worry, we turned them back into teachers after a little giggle.

Now remember, it’s a secret so Shhhhhhh!

Here We Are

7th October 2020M Hanratty

To welcome the children back to school in September, each class bubble shared the story ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers.
We had great fun learning about our wonderful world and thinking about the special places, people and animals in it. It made us all think about how lucky we are to have such an amazing world.
We created some beautiful work to share our thoughts with everyone in school.

What brilliant work it is!

Dyslexia Awareness Week 2020

6th October 2020C Edwards

This week is ‘Dyslexia Awareness Week 2020’.

5 Facts about Dyslexia
– Dyslexia affects between 10 – 20% of people.
– Dyslexia is not related to intelligence.
– There is no single type of dyslexia. It is unique for every person.
– Early identification is important.
– There are lots of different strategies which can be used to support people with dyslexia.

What is Dyslexia?
– It’s a specific learning difficulty, which means it causes problems with certain abilities used for learning, such as reading and writing.
– Unlike a learning disability, intelligence isn’t affected.
– It’s estimated up to 1 in every 10 people in the UK has some degree of dyslexia.
– Dyslexia is a lifelong problem that can present challenges on a daily basis, but support is available to improve reading and writing skills and help those with the problem be successful at school and work.

What are the signs of Dyslexia?
Signs of dyslexia usually become apparent when a child starts school and begins to focus more on learning how to read and write.

A person with dyslexia may:

– read and write very slowly
– confuse the order of letters in words
– put letters the wrong way round (such as writing “b” instead of “d”)
– have poor or inconsistent spelling
– understand information when told verbally, but have difficulty with information that’s written down
– find it hard to carry out a sequence of directions
– struggle with planning and organisation

But people with dyslexia often have good skills in other areas, such as creative thinking and problem solving.

If you have any concerns regarding your child, please speak to their class teacher or email [email protected]

To mark the week, Nessy are offering a free course for teachers, parents and anyone who would like to find out more information about dyslexia. To find out more, click here to add the ‘Understanding Dyslexia’ course to your cart. Then use the code ‘TEACHME’ to receive the course for free.
