This afternoon, Year Four began their new Design Technology. They have been tasked to build a strong, stable pavilion for an exhibition. Today, we started by experimenting with different structures using matchsticks and clay!
Nursery put their cooking skills to the test today and made some harvest soup. The children chopped up the vegetables themselves and we enjoyed smelling the delicious soup floating through the classroom.
Most children gave the soup a big thumbs up but we were so proud of everyone at least trying a bit.
What a lovely afternoon we had at our Teddy Bear’s picnic. We all made sandwiches and played games with our bears. Our favourite game was the giant parachute where our teddy bears flew off and up into the air.
For our DT topic this half term, Year Five have been exploring how to modify recipes and adapt them to our own tastes. We started with a basic bolognese recipe and looked at the aspects we could change or improve.
In our last lesson, we worked in groups to make the final changes and then, today, worked hard to create our versions bolognese! We made four variations: a traditional beef mince bolognese, an extra veg bolognese, one using turkey mince and courgettes and one using plant-based protein. We thoroughly enjoyed cooking and sampling everything but the recipe with the most votes was the healthy turkey mince recipe!
For our DT topic this half term we have been looking at healthy eating. We enjoyed cutting and chopping fruits and vegetables to make different smoothies.
The EYFS children enjoyed participating in a variety of different coronation themed activities yesterday. Dressed in red white and blue we made crowns, had a tea party, created decorations and many more.
Mrs Walton even had the opportunity to make cakes with the Nursery children which were the highlight of the day.
In DT, Y4 children each made a slingshot car. They built the chassis and launch mechanism using lolly sticks, hot glue and tape. They designed their own car bodies and constructed and assembled them independently. They the. Had fun testing the cars and racing them against each other.
The Nursery children were very concerned when they found out Goldilocks had eaten all of Baby Bear’s porridge so we jumped to the rescue. We counted out three spoonfuls of oats and poured in the milk, taking turns around the table. They did a great job of following instructions and loved being able to pick some yummy toppings to add to their own portion!
There were tasty smells all through the EYFS classrooms as we made some tasty stir fry to link in with Lunar New Yard (Chinese New Year). The children were so careful chopping up all the vegetables. The best part was definitely the tasting!
Glitter, glitter everywhere! The children have had a fabulous Christmas Craft Day getting artistic.
Here is a selection of photographs of all the creativity!
