Year 4 and Year 5 were both going to take part in a national project called ‘grow your own potatoes’ throughout March, April and May. Since lockdown happened, this project had to be adapted but I’m pleased to report the potatoes were still planted at school and they are growing healthily! I think we are going to end up with lots of potatoes!
Well done to everyone who took part in the school spelling ‘homophones’ challenge which has been running for the past week. There has been an amazing amount of game playing by lots of children. The challenge finished at 6pm and our top five high scoring spellers are …
James (Y3), Connie (Y3), Anya (Y4), Jack S (Y5), and Layton (Y3).
These children will receive a special honeypot reward on their account. Great work!
What should our next spelling challenge be?
Well done to everyone who has been on Spelling Shed this last week. There are lots of children playing games and completing their teacher’s spelling lists.
It has been close for the top spelling group but our current year group leaders are … Year 3! Great work Year 3. I think you really listened to Mrs Carr’s encouragement. Who will lead this time next week?

While you’ve been safe at home, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the Spelling Shed scores and it’s been great to see all the game playing!
Year 6 have managed to overtake Year 3 recently, and are our current top spelling year group. Well done Year 6!

The contest covers some common homophones and will be available from tomorrow for one week. The top five spellers in this contest will also receive a honey pot reward next week … so get spelling everyone!
We have lots of traditions at Marsden including the hot seat in assembly for special occasions in assembly.
Today is Mrs Carr’s 30th birthday and that would normally mean an assembly where Mrs Marshall shows embarrassing photographs. Now I’m sure Mrs Carr thought she had escaped this but Miss Clark has managed to get some pictures to mark the occasion!!!
Happy 30th Birthday Mrs Carr 🎂
In the Hume house we decided to try out the naked egg experiment from the Year 5 Easter challenge grid and … IT WORKED!
We did have to wait 48hours for the vinegar to dissolve the egg shell but it was very interesting watching the process.
Here is a link to another children’s story explaining Coronavirus.
Apart from all of your smiling faces, story time is definitely something about school I am really missing!
So please enjoy one of my favourite stories “Some Dogs Do” by Jez Alborough.
