Y2 have been working very hard in Science this term. The topic is Plants and the children have been extremely busy planting, investigating the best conditions for growth and investigating the life cycles of sunflowers and dandelions. Here are some fantastic photographs of our Science Investigations. It was great fun and we have learnt so much!
Today, Nursery had a very tricky number problem to solve. They each picked a cuddly friend to share some counters with (definitely not sweeties!!!). Then they investigated different ways the could share the sweets (I mean counters) between themselves and their friend.
The children discovered that for some numbers you can’t share fairly and some we can. Some children even managed to record what they found by drawing circles.
We certainly didn’t eat any sweets! 😉
This week Year 1 looked at measuring different objects around the classroom. We used non-standard measures such as cubes, pencils and even our hands! Then we moved on to using rulers to measure in centimeters.
Congratulations to our winners this week!
This week, Nursery were planning, making and testing ways to rescue Rapunzel from her tall tower. They picked a material for a parachute and attached a tester bear. We then tested them by dropping them from the top of the ladders (safely in Mrs Hanratty’s arms!).
Today the Nursery children learnt all about the Muslim festival of Eid.
We coloured in and created our own star and moon print which are important symbols in the Muslim religion.
On Friday, we took part in NSPCC Rocks during Number Day. The competition was fierce but Year 6 came out overall winners at the end of the day. Here are the three most valuable players from each class. Congratulations!
Happy 50th Birthday Mrs Hunter, we hope you have an amazing day!
On Friday, the whole school took part in a number hunt challenge. At each station there was an activity to complete or a problem to solve. The children (and staff!) had a great day.
Y4 have had a fantastic day with numbers! In the morning, their brains were put to the test with a countdown style challenge before they logged onto TT Rockstars to try and win as many points for school as they could. Next up, they completed Buddy’s Challenge which involved code breaking, word searches and solving 2 step word problems. The class did amazingly well at solving the puzzle and found all of the missing puzzle pieces which had been hidden around the class. Then, it was time to head outdoors to complete some exercise. Not only that, the children had an arithmetic question to answer while they were catching their breath! Then in the afternoon, it was a bit more relaxed as the class completed a range of puzzles linked to shape.
