Primary Engineer

By C Marshall22nd June 2016

This year our Year 5 and 6 children are working on an Engineer programme.

On Friday morning, we had parents and children in the school hall beginning their first challenge of making a bridge.

The morning was very successful and I know when we start to make the real models, we will do very well.

Thank you for the parents who supported and to Mr O’Brien for ‘project managing’ the day.

Year 5 do homework…

By C Marshall16th June 2016

When Year Five found out they would be learning about the Egyptians, the most popular request was to be able to have a pyramid building competition!  Mrs Watson set the children the task of creating one over the holidays.  They could use any materials and designs they wanted to and could ask friends and family members to help.  The only rule was to have fun!

“My pyramid is unique, with an entrance at the front. The mask of the pharaoh is buried inside.”

My pyramid is actually a game called ‘Giza Golf’! The game is, if you answer a question correctly, you get to have one go. It’s made out of cardboard, painted, and is decorated with paint pens.”

“I made the pyramid out of Jenga. I made 5 sections – the top section and the four sections which make the body of the pyramid. I built each section up and stuck all of the sections together with wood glue.”

“I stuck the sugar cubes to some card then shook sand on to it. I made some Egyptian symbols and stuck them on. After that, I used blue card to represent the River Nile.”

“My pyramid cake is made of sponge and cream and chocolate icing. It went a bit disastrous and in the middle there is lots of treasure – Smarties!”

“My pyramid is made of biscuit and is glued together with white chocolate. We lined the edges up with chocolate fingers. It took over 3 hours!”

“First, I walked to the Grotto. Secondly, I tried to find sand, shells, wood and rope. After that, I cut the cardboard up and stuck it together.”

“My pyramid is made out of cardboard covered in paper. All of the accessories inside were made by old, recycled things.”

“I made a Lego pyramid which took 3 hours to put together!”

“First I cut the base then covered it in glue. After I made the pyramid, I covered it in sand.”

“I first made a bamboo frame and used wallpaper to cover it. I painted it with cement. It is like a big hat!”

“My pyramid is made out of cardboard but there is a twist ……. It opens out into Egyptian Cluedo! I painted it yellow and brown on the outside and I stuck yellow card on the inside. It took me four days!”

“I made a pyramid cake. It was just a normal sponge cake and then I made the icing which gave the pyramid more shape. Once the cake was on the car4d, I stuck the brown sugar on the rest of the board and it looked more like the desert.”

“First I got some cardboard and stuck the triangles together and put 1p and 2p coins on.”

“I cut three triangles out of cardboard and glued all three pieces together so it turned into a pyramid. Then I PVA glued the outside of the cardboard then put some sand on the PVA glue and waited for it to dry.”

“Me and Lucy C worked together to build two pyramids out of pasta and cardboard. We made the Nile, a cat and an Egyptian. Inside the pyramid we put Osiris, Isis and Tutankhamen’s tomb.”

“My pyramid was made from white chocolate and underneath the chocolate was cardboard. I put chocolate fingers on the side so that it wouldn’t look boring.”

“What I did to make the pyramid was I made a square and folded it into a box and kept repeating but each time I made the box smaller and smaller. Then, I painted the pyramid with bronze acrylic paint.”

“First, I found some old Lego and put it together. I struggled to put the top in because it fell in the middle. At the end it worked out. Next, I added some treasure.”

“My pyramid is made of different coloured cake mix with Malteasers, marshmallows and Haribos. For the sand I used biscuit crumbs.”

“My pyramid is made out of chocolate. I worked with my mam to make it. To make it, we made a mould and melted the chocolate and filled the mould up.”

“My pyramid is made out of cardboard and sand. It took me four days to finish my project. I first made a small pyramid, then a bigger one and then an even bigger one. After that, I glued my pyramid and covered it in sand.”

We are amazed by how much effort has been put in.  Here are the results of their hard work ……
