Key Stage 2

Year 6 – Well Done

By C Marshall15th May 2017

Dear Year 6,

Last week you have all completed your SATs for reading, maths, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.  We know that you have worked incredibly hard, and we are extremely proud of each and every one of you.

The SATs week has been hanging over you for so long and I know for every child, parent, carer, relative and teacher it is a horrible time. It may feel that ‘everything’ about you hangs on these tests but we want you to know that is not the case. We have 31 unique children making up our 2017 Year 6 class, all offering amazing talents, skills and abilities which can never be measured through a test.

A week away with your friends at Broomley Grange and the memories you are making are just as, if not more important that the tests you have completed. The life skills you will come home with and the new adventures you will share, I hope will allow last week to become just a distant memory that will be forgotten.

So remember that you are amazing, unique, and very special.  It has been a privilege to teach you and to watch you grow into the lovely young people we see today.

We would like to say a very well done to you, not just for working so hard this week, but for everything that you are – keep it up.

With very best wishes,

Mrs Marshall and all of the staff at Marsden Primary School

Survival Day

By S Hewitson31st March 2017

In Year 3 we have been reading The Last Castaway where the characters become stranded on a desert island. This week we had our own adventure. We visited the beach and took part in a ‘Survival Day’ where we learnt how to survive on a desert island.

First we learnt how to build shelters to keep warm. Next we went foraging for food in the rock pools. Then we learnt how to start a fire using fire sticks so we could cook our food. It was a fun filled day from start to finish.

We are looking forward to our next adventure!

Year 6 children had a really fun time sharing their reading talents with children from Year 2 and were amazed at how enthusiastic the children were to discuss their books.

Back in class, the children from Year 6 the children watched the old movie of Alice in Wonderland, made notes about the film and produced some amazing descriptive writing from this stimulus.

Here are some pictures of the day.

Year 3 World Book Day!

By S Hewitson6th March 2017

Year 3 had a great day celebrating World Book Day. Everyone had amazing costumes! We looked at The Famous Five’s Half Term Adventure. We created new book covers for some of the older Famous Five books and had our own Famous Five picnic. One of our favourite parts of the day was sharing books with Nursery children.
