Halloween in Year 6

23rd October 2020L Watson

What a fantastic morning we’ve had in Year Six! We started the day with a scavenger hunt in the school grounds and then had party games in the hall, with plenty of sweet treats in between! This afternoon we are going to settle down with a Halloween movie and individual treat bags!

WANTED!!!

16th October 2020S Hume

Year 5 are reading Beowulf in class. We know Hrothgar needs help to stop Grendel’s evil attacks so we have created wanted posters to advertise for a hero to save the kingdom. We decided to write them using the Runic alphabet To make them more authentic and fit in with the story setting.
We think they look brilliant!

Here We Are

7th October 2020M Hanratty

To welcome the children back to school in September, each class bubble shared the story ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers.
We had great fun learning about our wonderful world and thinking about the special places, people and animals in it. It made us all think about how lucky we are to have such an amazing world.
We created some beautiful work to share our thoughts with everyone in school.

What brilliant work it is!

Dyslexia Awareness Week 2020

6th October 2020C Edwards

This week is ‘Dyslexia Awareness Week 2020’.

5 Facts about Dyslexia
– Dyslexia affects between 10 – 20% of people.
– Dyslexia is not related to intelligence.
– There is no single type of dyslexia. It is unique for every person.
– Early identification is important.
– There are lots of different strategies which can be used to support people with dyslexia.

What is Dyslexia?
– It’s a specific learning difficulty, which means it causes problems with certain abilities used for learning, such as reading and writing.
– Unlike a learning disability, intelligence isn’t affected.
– It’s estimated up to 1 in every 10 people in the UK has some degree of dyslexia.
– Dyslexia is a lifelong problem that can present challenges on a daily basis, but support is available to improve reading and writing skills and help those with the problem be successful at school and work.

What are the signs of Dyslexia?
Signs of dyslexia usually become apparent when a child starts school and begins to focus more on learning how to read and write.

A person with dyslexia may:

– read and write very slowly
– confuse the order of letters in words
– put letters the wrong way round (such as writing “b” instead of “d”)
– have poor or inconsistent spelling
– understand information when told verbally, but have difficulty with information that’s written down
– find it hard to carry out a sequence of directions
– struggle with planning and organisation

But people with dyslexia often have good skills in other areas, such as creative thinking and problem solving.

If you have any concerns regarding your child, please speak to their class teacher or email [email protected]

To mark the week, Nessy are offering a free course for teachers, parents and anyone who would like to find out more information about dyslexia. To find out more, click here to add the ‘Understanding Dyslexia’ course to your cart. Then use the code ‘TEACHME’ to receive the course for free.

Year 5

18th September 2020S Hume
We’ve had a great start to life in Year 5.
It’s wonderful to be back working and playing together and it certainly has been great to see all the happy faces!
The children have really impressed me with their positive attitudes and we have identified and celebrated our own great individual qualities in class. We’ve created colourful ‘I am…’ posters to share our thoughts with the whole school.
I think they look amazing!
Great work Year 5!

Y4 Fun!

18th September 2020M Hanratty

Everyone has made a great start to life in Y4. We were all feeling a little nervous last week (Mrs Wilson and Mrs Lawson included!) but after having a good chat about what would be the same and what would be different about school we all felt much better.

We are settled into our routines and it feels so wonderful to be back playing and learning with our friends. We may have only been back two weeks but we have managed to write a poem and a letter about special people and special places in our lives.
We’ve really impressed Mrs Wilson with our maths skills and our afternoons have been so busy with science, history and geography. We are looking forward to starting our ‘Romans’ topic and finding out all about the Roman Empire.
