We enjoyed another open the book session this week focusing on the story of the big spender.
EYFS are always eager to learn new information about the world, especially if it involves a celebration! Last week, we talked all about the Hindu festival Holi which is also called the “Festival of Colour”.
Traditionally, people throw coloured powder at each other however we decided to use a clever piece of technology called Sphero to help us spread colour. First, we squirted different coloured paint on a large white sheet. Then we made Sphero move by controlling a blue spot on the app.
We loved our final Holi masterpiece!
Today Year 3 visited Whitburn Methodist Church as part of their RE topic. We have been looking at Christian worship in our local area. The children loved visiting the church and especially enjoyed singing.
Thank you to our Open the Book readers for sharing the story of “The Three Kings”
This morning we enjoyed hearing the story of the very first Christmas from our friends at Open the Book.
The EYFS children loved making their Christingles this week in preparation for the church service.
Yesterday, we walked down to the church for a beautiful Christingle service. We talked about the meaning of each part of the Christingle and sang some songs together. Once all the candles were lit (glow sticks for our younger children), we turned out the lights and said a special prayer.
The choir even performed for us.
Year 1 had a great time making their Christingles ready for church!
We would like to wish everyone celebrating the festival of light a joyous Diwali celebration!
As you know, EYFS love a celebration so we created our own CD Diva Lamps, decorated henna hands and watched how Diwali is celebrated. If you want to learn more you can watch the clip below.
