Year 2 had a brilliant day visiting the Stephenson Museum. We saw lots of trains and found out about the story of George Stephenson.
Year 5 travelled back in time to consolidate their learning on the Anglo-Saxons and learn more about the Viking invasion. We gathered by the fire to listen to a retelling of the epic poem Beowulf, took part in burial rituals and ended our day with a brutal battle.
Year 3 have been investigating the vanishing village of Marsden. This week we enjoyed looking through all of the artifacts and making a fact file.
This morning Year 2 performed their class assembly on “The Great Explorers” They were amazing and it was a brilliant performance.
Year 5 have creating their own Anglo-Saxon brooches to link their art and history topics. First, they designed them and then used glue and string for the outline of the design. They then covered them in tinfoil and decorated them.
Today, Year 4 had the opportunity to welcome David from Durham University to our classroom. With his help, we became archeologists, examining artefacts from the time – some of which were over 2000 years old! The children also made their own offerings to the gods from clay and even performed in a classic Greek tragedy – Medea. We had an amazing day and learned so much more about the people, culture and beliefs of the time!

In Year 2 we have been looking at Christopher Columbus and his epic voyage. To conclude our topic we used loose parts to create our own Christopher Columbus ships.
Well done Year 2!
Year 2 have had a great time starting their Explorer topic. We found out what an explorer is and even did our own exploring.
Year 3 loved using their historical enquiry skills to step back in time to the stone age! They took part in a wide variety of activities with put the history, art and dt skills to the test.
