SATS Relaxation

By C Marshall16th May 2016

As part of Year 6 ‘fun day’ to raise money for Broomley Grange, the children asked their parents and relations to compete against them in a rounders match.

We had many willing volunteers and quite a few spectators who enjoyed a ‘chilly’ afternoon on the school field.

As you can see from the pictures and videos, fun was had by all and the result was quite tight at the end with the children scoring 10 rounders but the parents shone through as WINNERS with a magnificent 11 rounders!!!

Well done to everyone who took part.

Watch how amazing the matches were!!

Tasty Treats

By M Hanratty13th May 2016

As part of our book study into “Alice’s adventures in Wonderland”, Year 3 prepared and took part in our very own Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

The children followed recipes to bake their own cakes, shortbread biscuits and make some fruit smoothies to enjoy at the party.

The whole class had a great time and have thoroughly enjoyed the timeless classic.

WELL DONE YEAR 6

13th May 2016C Marshall

Dear Year 6,

This week you have all completed your SATs for reading, maths, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.  We know that you have worked incredibly hard, and we are extremely proud of each and every one of you.

The SATs tell you a measure of your learning within school.  They do not, however, tell you all of the things that make you special, unique, and wonderful in your own ways.

Your parents and all of us at Marsden know that you are more than just a test.  Some of you play sport, some of you play a musical instrument.  We know that some of you some of you can sing and dance, some of you represent a wide range of organisations at a very high level.  Some of you even help your families at home with household jobs.  These are just a few of the things that make you individual, and that make your parents and all of the staff at Marsden proud of you, not just today or this week, but every day.

So remember that you are amazing, unique, and very special.  It has been a privilege to teach you and to watch you grow into the lovely young people we see today.

Remember that there is no way to ‘test’ all the amazing, awesome things that make you YOU!

So we would like to say a very well done to you, not just for working so hard this week, but for everything that you are – keep it up.

With very best wishes,

Mrs Marshall and all of the staff at Marsden Primary School

Year 6 Sponsored Walk

By C Marshall13th May 2016

Year 6 children have worked so hard this week on their SATs but decided today to do a sponsored walk to raise money for their visit to Broomley Grange.

The weather was chilly but dry and after 3 miles they decided to pop into the park to use up any energy they had left!

What an amazing day and fantastic spirit from all of the children.

A Message to our Inspiring Year 6!

By M Hanratty8th May 2016

REMEMBER, SATS ONLY TEST TWO SUBJECTS…
At the moment, you’re doing a lot of English and Maths, but you’ve got lots of other skills. Unfortunately, SATs don’t test these. They don’t test whether you’re a creative person, good at I.T. or brilliant with animals. They don’t test your speaking skills or whether you’re fantastic at mending things. They don’t measure whether you’re arty or sporty, a musician or someone who really cares for other people. Although subjects like Maths and English are important, never forget you’ve been given talents in plenty of other areas too.
When Monday morning comes, we know you’ll try your best
but today is Sunday so make sure you have a rest!
No matter what happens next week, remember that we (Staff and Parents) are proud of the effort and determination you have shown.
You are all amazing!

Apple Fritters

By M Hanratty30th April 2016

Y5 have been making Apple Fritters!

In the novel “Blabbermouth”, the main character, Rowena Batts, enjoys making apple fritters as her father is an apple farmer. We gave it a go and we’re delighted with the results. some staff members were also lucky enough to taste our treats.

Mrs O’Brien said, “The fritters were light and fluffy on the outside with succulent apple inside.”

Year 3 and the Chocolate Factory.

By M Hanratty24th March 2016

In design and technology this term, we have been looking at food packaging. We discovered that there are a lot of things that need to be on packaging such as the ingredient list. This is very important for people who suffer from allergies.
We decided to make our own Easter Egg boxes and of course we needed to make the chocolate eggs too! We conducted some market research to gather ideas before making our own.
We were very pleased with the end products, especially the tasty treats inside.

Durham Outreach 2016

By C Marshall10th March 2016

Our Year 5 children and the Year 6 choir have been part of an Outreach program organised by Durham Girl Choristers.

The children ended the program with a special concert at Durham Cathedral, where they joined six other schools from South Tyneside to perform the songs to their parents and other special guests.

The sound was amazing – click on the link to hear a short section of one of the songs they sang.
