Year 4 had a wonderful walk this morning in the beautiful autumn sunshine. First of all, we walked to Souter Lighthouse where the kind staff had set up some fun games for us to play. We all loved archery!
After that we continued to walk along the coastal path to Jackie’s Beach before heading back to school. Thanks for all of your support!
What a wonderful, yet wet, day Year 6 have had on their visit to Beamish today. The children took great efforts to look the part and dressed just like 1940s evacuees. Once our evacuees has arrived at Home farm, they learned all about the types of jobs they’d be expected to do. We wrote letters home to our family in the city and then we were put through our paces as new Home Guard recruits.
After lunch, we took time to explore all of the interesting areas of Beamish and tried out travelling on coach, tram and steam engine!
Y3 enjoyed investigating magnetic fields. They placed everyday materials in front of magnets and tested the strength of the magnetic field surrounding bar magnets. They discovered that although the magnets were small, their magnetic field was strong enough to attract metal objects through some barriers.

Congratulations to Year Six who received their certificates and badges after a tough week of cycling. They faced every different type of bad weather imaginable but battled through with smiles on their faces! We are very proud!
Y4 had a wonderful visit to Arbeia Roman Fort. The staff gave us a fantastic tour of the ruins before we completed a ‘handling workshop’ where we looked at objects that were nearly 2000 years old!
In the workshop we were taught how archaeologists act as detectives to find out more about the objects they have found and what they can tell us about the past.
We really enjoyed looking the reconstructed buildings to see what life was like at the fort for the soldiers who lived there.
At the beginning of the school year, it is our tradition that the Year 6 children are given a chance to be elected for House Captain and Vice Captain.
Competition was tough this year, with a massive effort being put into their speeches. All of the children in KS2 were asked to vote and the winners were:

Here are our final photos from our last day at Marsden. We are so lucky to have taught such wonderful children and we hope they have made special friendships that will last a lifetime. We loved catching up with Harry over the fence at lunchtime!

EYFS children were very upset that the Year 6 children weren’t able to have a traditional end of year celebration. So they put their thinking caps on and teamed up together to make a card and keepsake for every child in Y6.
