Well done to our last group of Year 6 children who were excellent engineers building a car from scratch!
Y5 had a great afternoon watching a movie with snacks and hot chocolate to celebrate our achievement of 100% attendance!
As part of Science Week Year 3 visited the Great North Museum and worked with Professor Cess from Newcastle University. Together they investigated rocks and fossils using microscopes, hand lenses and ancient artefacts. They also used software to discover that our community is built upon a bedrock of sandstone. Y3 enjoyed their visit and completed some super learning. So proud of you Y3!
Y3 Science Week
Year 5 have just started to read our new book Boom! The story begins with the main character enjoying a sandwich, red Leicester and gooseberry jam. They share that their favourite sandwich is cheddar and strawberry jam sandwiches which we thought was a rather peculiar pairing. So we put them to the test and had a little taste! A big thumbs up for some and a big thumbs down from others.
Yesterday, Mr Roberts from The Word came to show Y5 how crumbles work and what their applications can be. We connected our crumbles up to different components to make lights flash, motors run and even added a switch to our circuits.
We used code to help us control the devices.
Ahead of our upcoming RE unit, Year 4 visited Durham Cathedral to find out about the history of the building and the life of St Cuthbert. They enjoyed an internal and external tour, a riverside walk, took part in team building challenges linked to key events in St Cuthbert’s life and acted out some of the stories. Our guide, Joseph, made sure that we all learned so many facts and had lots of fun!
Our Key Stage Two children had a fabulous day celebrating World Book Day by Reading Our Way.
This morning, MP Emma Lewell-Buck visited Year 5 so that we could quiz her about her role. She was very impressed with how curious the children were and it definitely started to get us more excited for our trip to London!
Last half term, Y5 studied the artist Banksy with Mrs Potter and how art can deliver a message. Using his work as inspiration the children created their own piece art to embody our school motto “Everyone Cares, Everyone Matters”. They each designed an under the sea character promoting inclusion and diversity.
