This week, we set the Nursery a very difficult task of sharing some jewels with a cuddly friend to have a picnic. Mrs. Elliott couldn’t believe how good the children were at suggesting ways to solve the problem and investigate all the different possible ways of sharing.
She was particularly impressed by two children, Grace S and Finn, who used advanced mathematical vocabulary to explain what they were doing.
Grace S commented, “We need to halve the jewels to share them”
Finn noted, “We need to halve the jewels in the middle so we get the same on each side.”
Even when Mrs. Elliott tried to trick the pair by giving them an odd number, they shared the jewels equally and said they didn’t need the odd jewel or it wouldn’t be fair.
It was very hard sharing our jewels but you all did so well and I am so so proud of you all
