In Reception, we have been learning about measurement.
As part of our ‘Winter’ topic, we carried out a Maths investigation using ice cubes. We each decided how many ice cubes we wanted to use and counted them out independently. Then, we weighed our cups of ice using analogue and digital scales. We recorded our findings in a table and talked about the word ‘grams’. We left our ice until after dinner and compared our cups to discuss how the ice had changed. We noticed that the ice had melted into water because our classroom was so warm! For our next job, we re-weighed the cups of ice to see whether the weight had changed. Then we poured our water into our measuring jugs to explore capacity. It was a very busy day, full of marvellous maths!
I

Very impressed with your measuring skills Reception! Was the cup heavier when it had ice cubes or water in?
