As part of our Mamma Mia topic, Year Four sampled some Italian delicacies – risotto, prosciutto, focaccia, pepperoni and tortellini. Every child tasted something and the responses were overwhelmingly positive! Over the next few week, we will be designing our own Italian dishes and, at the end of the unit, we hope to invite parents in to taste our dishes!
Yesterday was the Y4 class assembly. The children thoroughly enjoyed performing as artists from the 20th Century and had the whole school singing and dancing along! Thank you again for coming to watch and providing some fantastic costumes! Here are some photos of our ‘legends’!
In Year Four, our recent English work has been based around a short Disney film called Feast, which features an adorable French bulldog named Winston. Imagine our delight when a real life Winston came to visit us today! I think you’ll all agree that he is just amazing! Thanks so much to Mrs Payne for bringing Dave to meet us.
Yesterday, Year Four began their journey to become rockstars! Over the next six weeks, Mr English will be coming into school to teach the children how to use Garage Band on the iPad. Each week, the pupils will create a section of music which will eventually build into their own song! Mrs Watson appreciated the moments of silence when all 31 children had their headphones on! We’ll look forward to hearing the end results!
Today, Year Four were treated to an amazing drama workshop linked to the production of Gangsta Granny! We created our own ‘gangsta’ alter egos and performed Granny-style rap, created freezeframes from the play and improvised our own scenes. Thanks to Stef from the Sunderland Empire for making our afternoon so fun!
Yesterday, Year Four visited the Sunderland Empire to watch Gangsta Granny live on stage! We had an amazing time and the children thoroughly enjoyed every minute. We can’t wait for the follow-up workshop in school next week. More photos to follow then!
On Tuesday the whole school discovered muscles they did not know they had when Ant Clennan brought his Hiit2OH programme into school.
From the pupils to the teachers everybody had an amazing day and can’t wait to use the programme again in their PE lessons.
Have a look at the videos and photos below to see how much fun we had.
Year Four had lots of fun today! The costumes were amazing and the children really got into character! We made Swallows and Amazons themed board games and tried them out with the children from Reception!

Year Four thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the cinema to see ‘Swallows and Amazons’! The film was great and we were thrilled with our surprise snacks! All children were impeccably behaved and a credit to Marsden!
At science club this week Year 3 and 4 have been learning about acids and alkalines. The children had to test different liquids to see if they changed colour. If the liquid changed to red it was an acid, if it went green it was neutral and if it went purple it was an alkaline.
We had a great time playing investigating liquids and are looking forward to next week!
